Whuah! Finally got through this one. I found this challenge yesterday and I'm hooked

The hint above about arithmetic is a bit misleading. It's more like after you've ******-d the thing, you use the data you get to create the final output, which is very similar to the output of the unix command mentioned above.

I'm a Windows guy most of the time so it's not until I tried the unix command on cygwin that I know how to solve this

Hey guys, I'm kind of using this challenge as a fun way to learn python, so while I've figured out most of the puzzle part of this one, I'm still struggling with the basics. I think I'll stand a better chance of figuring out what needs to be done with the data if I can print it out one element to a line. I figure I'll need to know how to do this, anyway, to render the final output... Can I get some advice on how to loop through this thing, and print out one element per line?

Ok... I saved the data out into a text file, and formatted it so that I can look at it better, and *now* I know exactly what it's describing. But I still have an insufficient grasp of loop iteration to render it to the screen. I could do it manually, but I'd really rather not.

All that I could reach, was a long list with some kind of encryption, and I am affraid my english teacher can't help me

These challanges are the best I ever have seen on the net, so I would be so sad to not continue it.

The module name was familiar to me.
I have tried it, and it works.
It is a so elegant module.
I never used it before, but it seems to be a must to know.

I've finally got my script to produce an output which bears resemblance to a message However, the message is put together in such a way that its meaning is still very ambiguous. I've got several "letters" which could range from an 'i' to an 'l' to an 'h'! Am I doing something wrong? Or is it just that whoever created this, can't format the message well enough!?

Hard to say without seeing what you have on screen.. maybe you need to resize the output window or redirect your output to a text file so you can view it without automatic line breaks.. but maybe you just made some subtle error in your code..

Would I be able to PM you with my code and some sample output - just to see if I've got it wrong or not?

Hey, thanks for everyone's hints here. That last part about ...

For the people who're trying to do this using a language other than Python, I was able to complete this particular one with Ruby, but not for all of it. I still had to use just enough Python for the first part. I could have spent a lot more time doing an all-Ruby solution, but it really wasn't worth it. Will have to see how much harder it gets.

It could matter, if your terminal window is too small

How can I know that my terminal window is big enough?

Your terminal window will be big enough as soon as you will see the good result (I think a full screen will be sufficient even in 800*600)

If that's true, I haven't solved it yet
