I can't see any boat, apart from small ones in an earlier picture. Is the tiny piece of information obtained in repairing the broken file of any use there ? Or did I miss a file in a previous level ?

You are missing it. You might want to take that literally though.

We were supposed to apologize back on 23. So in theory, we could've apologized with the information we had then. The information presented in 26 then is just an additional clue.

And yet, I'm still missing the boat.

Relax, it's not possible to miss the boat before you've fixed that thing. After you've fixed it, I'd say it's likely you'll miss the boat -- but not for long, given how often you've been told not to miss it

You're right, once I fixed that thing, knowing what to do with the boat was easy. Onto 27.

I opened that thing in an editor and thought, how the heck and I going to fix this by hand, I don't even know where it's broken. I must be on the wrong path.

Then I realized that the thing was [spoiler removed] to fix by [spoiler removed].

The thing I'm really bummed about is that just when I've convinced myself that thesamet is putting up levels too smart for me and I should just give up (read: spend my time doing something more productive) I solve a level relatively quickly and realize I can't give up the challenge just yet...
