OK, first do I use string? Secondly do I use the String Method "Replace"? Thanks for any help.

Use the tools that are appropriate. I did use the string module, though I didn't use replace.

Best thing you can do is just load the string into an interactive python shell; either the standard one that came with your python installation, or one on steroids like ipython. I use the latter and it makes it much easier to experiment and try things out. You will find it much easier to dissect the data sets that the challenge throws at you!
