I do get the same feeling as at my birthday though; what might be inside! ;)

I know what's inside now, just need to figure out what those l__s are. I still don't recall the game though.

I almost guarantee you'll be underwhelmed. Like some of the other levels, it's more about the journey than the destination

Still figuring out how to do what the eventual message tells me. Nt many clues for this one, it seems.

One birthday party I had as a child, we not only played this game but my parents had a banner made that said "Happy Birthday".

Actually, they didn't. But they should have

Hah, solved it, now that some private messaging pointed me to the meaning of those l__s. I'll decorate my party with it!

I don't have a clue about that even after finishing it. My a priori guess was that thesamet played a lot of Hide and Seek when young

Three clues for this level, at least two useless, at least one a blatant lie: (1) "HIJJIIHIJJ" is not the answer, although you're on the right track if you're dense enough to find it; (2) it's much easier to solve the first part by downloading a .wav file of L's son's "Ode to Looking Backward", then just xor the frame data into the pack stream; and, (3) if you start computing logarithms, stop.

Err?

If there is a format that does not requiret a header, I haven't found it yet. The 'compressed'-like modules that are not a compression module in python that I know of all require you to know what data you wish to extract first, and I am not going to brute force it.

I never had a birthday party until I was 21. We didn't play any applicable games at that one methinks.

Nobody said there was no header.. It is just a very short header.

what game was that?

even after solving this level, I have no idea whatsoever what game that should have been. It reminded me more on some russion play thing.(Some PM about the games name would be nice)

Ha. I should have thought of this --- I even had to deal with this particular non-encapsulated structure a lot a work a while back. (Actually, I think I did think of this, but discarded the idea. Foolish me.)

Re the game, although I recognize it now, I don't think it's a game that has a particular name (at least, not that I know of).

Off to 22 ...

Somehow I'm lost in how to interpret the l__s. It certainly reminds me of some patterns I've seen, but I can't make the connection.

Keep trying: it took me quite some time too, but I figured it out eventually.

Re: Err?

Found the method to this madness. There is more than one way to shrink something. Dealing w/ the l__s was simple after getting there; you just have to know how to see things properly.

Still have no idea what this game was supposed to be.
