"I recently purchased a Canon XF100 camcorder and as I have always used mini DV film in the past I was not aware that the camera produced files in MXF format which are not recognized by Pinnacle editing software."
"I have recorded many HD footages from Canon XF100 camcorders that in .MXF video format, now I would like to import these projects to Pinnacle Studio for editing. It seems that XF100 MXF files are not supported by Pinnacle Studio, Can you recommend some software which can do MXF to Pinnacle Studio conversion?"
"Can the Canon Camera XF 300 (and Canon professional camcorder with MPEG-2 HD) to work with the editing program Pinnacle Film Studio 14 easily?"
Maybe you have come across similar questions when Googling a solution for importing Canon MXF videos to Pinnacle Studio. Congratulations – what you're reading is a quick and easy guide for solving the problem.
In the first place, let's get familiar with the MXF format. Basically, MXF is a data container that is in the broadcast world. MXF is used by professional HD camcorders such as Sony XDCAM HD, Panasonic P2 series and Cano XF cameras (XF100, XF105, XF300, XF305). So it's no surprising that an amateur program like Pinnacle studio does not understand MXF format, because only Programs like AVID, Premiere or Final Cut (Apple) can do that. Now that you have recorded Canon .MXF videos, the best solution probably would be a transition to more professional software - or if necessary, convert the MXF recordings into an understandable format for Pinnacle Studio, as it illustrates in the following guide.
What you need: Pavtube MXF Converter for Windows or MXF Converter for Mac
Step 1: Get the MXF Converter and install it on your computer. Run the app to import your MXF footages from local backup directory.
Step 2: Hit the Format box to get the dropdown list for output video formats, among which please select HD Video --> DivX HD(*.avi) as output format.
Step 3: Adjust the video and parameters, including the Bitrate of Video and Audio, the Codec of Video and Audio, Video Size, Sample Rate, Frame Rate, Audio Channels, etc., by clicking the Settings buttion on the main interface.
Tip: The 1920*1080 as video size and 30fps for NTSC area while 25fps for PAL area as Frame Rate are the best settings for editing in Pinnacle Studio.
Step 4: Click the "Convert" button to start converting MXF to Pinnacle Studio compatible HD AVI video. The software will also deinterlace the MXF shootings.
Step 5: After that, launch Pinnacle Studio (we run Pinnacle Studio HD Ultimate v15 for example), and follow "Import"> "IMPORT FROM"> "Other devices"> "the folder stored the converted AVI files"> "Start Import”.
